Identifying and Reducing the Risks
The program is delivered by a university qualified exercise scientist/physiologist and addresses a number of strategies to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) such as strains and sprains. This comprehensive program minimises injury risk through preventative measures such as identifying and reducing contributing factors, ergonomic modifications, promoting ideal posture, function, and manual handling practices.
The program includes a detailed needs assessment, tailored group education and program evaluation to measure improvements to injury risk. The needs assessment evaluates work task observations, baseline injury statistics and employee injury risk questionnaires. The table below outlines the workshop series:
All program components are tailored to each specific organisation dependent on the job demands of employees. The aim of the program is:
- provide participants with a knowledge and understanding of injury risk on the job (eg. ergonomics, station set-up, repetitive movement)
- provide guidelines on safe stretching, strengthening, back care and ergonomics
- promote good injury prevention practices amongst employees and management through provision of specific exercise practices
- improve the attitude and behaviour of employees towards injury prevention practices onsite
- assist the employer and management team to create environment change to reduce risks to employees
An additional train the trainer program is offered as part of the IPP. This session is appropriate for management, shift supervisors, or other employees interested in facilitating safe and effective pre-work warm-up programs.
